Tools of the Mind (TOTM)

We proudly use the Tools of the Mind curriculum which is a research-based, comprehensive early childhood curriculum designed to support the whole child by integrating cognitive, academic, and social-emotional learning (SEL) into every part of the day.Through intentional play, structured activities, and guided learning, children build essential skills in self-regulation, literacy, math, and problem-solving. The curriculum supports each child’s natural curiosity while fostering independence, collaboration, and a lifelong love of learning.

How It Works:
In our classrooms, learning through play is taken to a whole new level. Children participate in structured, imaginative play scenarios like setting up a doctor’s office, grocery store, or restaurant. This is where our preschoolers plan roles, use props, and follow storylines. These play plans encourage children to think ahead, follow rules, and collaborate with peers. Engaging in skills that are critical for both school and life success.

Throughout the day, children engage in hands-on literacy and math activities that are woven into play and everyday routines. Teachers act as guides and facilitators, helping children build the tools they need to learn independently and work together respectfully.

Tools of the Mind helps children develop the ability to regulate their behavior, manage emotions, and stay focused. Which are skills shown by research to be just as important as academic knowledge in early childhood. It meets children where they are developmentally, encouraging growth at every level.

What Children Gain:

  • Strong self-regulation and executive function skills

  • Early reading, writing, and math readiness

  • Confidence in expressing themselves and solving problems

  • Respect for others and the ability to work cooperatively

  • Joyful learning through purposeful, imaginative play

Children leave our classroom not only ready for kindergarten but equipped with the "tools" they need to thrive: focus, confidence, kindness, curiosity, and a love of learning that lasts a lifetime.
