2023-24 Health Office Letter

The primary responsibility for the health of a child rests with the parent/guardian and their family physician or primary health care provider.  According to state law, “Each student medical examination shall be conducted at the medical home of the student, and a full report sent to the school.” (N.J.A.C. 6A:16-2.2). Any student whose parent/guardian has not submitted the completed, state-mandated forms prior to the first day of school may be excluded from school until all requirements are met. If your child has an appointment with the doctor past the first day of school, a note from the doctor or an appointment card with the date of the exam should be submitted to the Health Office.

When to Stay Home from School

Any symptoms of the flu, such as, nausea/vomiting, fever, chills, body aches, bad sore throat, persistent cough.

 

When your child's fever is above 100.0 F  

  • Your child may not return to school until fever is under 100.0 F for 24 hrs. without Tylenol or Motrin.

When your child is vomiting

  • Your child may not return to school until there is no vomiting for 24 hours.

Medical Forms

If your child needs to take medication while in school, they will need to download the appropriate form(s), have your physician fill-out and sign page two of the form(s), and return it to the Nurse by the first week of school.

Respiratory Virus Guidelines (including COVID-19)

If your student has a respiratory virus (including COVID-19), they should stay home for at least 24-hours and can return to school when they are symptom-free and do not need medication to control a fever.  If your child does test positive for COVID-19, please contact the school nurse.

Bed Bugs

Bed Bugs are increasingly becoming a problem within residences of all kinds including homes, apartments, hotels, dorms, and shelters throughout the United States, currently there is no evidence of a major infestation in the Dunellen School District.  

The common bedbug is a 6-legged wingless insect, which ranges in size from a poppy-seed in its early stages to a 0.5 cm length at adult size.  They are white or light-tan in color to a reddish-brown.  Bed bugs have spread far and wide through the country and are to be expected in every community regardless of the population, income, or ethnic/racial make up of the population.

COVID-19 Reporting

In order for us to maintain a safe and healthy environment in all of our schools, we will need you to continue reporting any positive COVID-19 tests that occur during the school year.

 

Please use the email address below to report if a student in the Dunellen district has tested positive for COVID-19. Include the following information in your email:

  1. Your name and relationship with the student who tested positive.
  2. The name of the student(s) who tested positive.
  3. The school and grade of the student(s).
  4. The date the positive test was submitted.
  5. Two phone numbers that we can use to contact you.
