Hello Destroyers
It’s hard to believe, but we’ve completed 2 weeks of the new school year and everyone has fallen back into the routine of the school day.

School News and Updates
DHS will be hosting Back to School Night next week on Wednesday, September 18th, starting at 6:30 pm. Parents (and students) are invited to come out to meet all of the teachers and get a chance to tour the building. We will speak about expectations for the new school year and opportunities available to the students.

Today is a busy one for our Destroyer athletic teams. Good luck to all as the Girls Soccer team is on the road to take on South River, while the Boys Soccer team plays at home at 4:00 pm against Wardlaw-Hartridge. The Football team is away at 7:00 pm taking on the Crusaders of Bound Brook.

It's time for Class Elections. If students are interested in being a class officer (President, Vice President, Secretary or Treasurer) now is the time to help the class and run for office.
If students are interested, they should either email or go to see the Grade level adviser.
For Grade 9 - Mrs. Zandomenego in Room 203
For Grade 10 - Mr. Valenzuela in Room 203
For Grade 11 - Mrs. Vakulchik or Mrs. Corrao in Room 207
For Grade 12 - Mrs. Buchholz in Room 202 or Mrs. MacManus in the Nurse's office
Anyone wanting to run for office, must notify the adviser by the end of the school day on Tuesday, Sept. 17th. Those running will be expected to give a speech before their class next week.

Upcoming Events
Picture Day is coming up for 9th, 10th, and 11th graders. School pictures will be taken during students' PE/Health classes on Monday, September 23rd. Picture forms will be handed out in PE/Health classes.

DHS will soon be offering the Homework Help Center after school, from 2:45 - 3:45 pm, every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in the DHS Tech Center. Students can come to get extra help from teachers with their school work or just sit and have a quiet place to get things done. We encourage students to attend so that they have fewer or no assignments to do when they get home.

Academic Corner
Our teachers are excited about the new school year and classes have gotten into full swing.
With Mr. Shimko’s Industrial Arts classes, the students continue learning (and being reminded of) safety protocols and procedures so that they will be able to operate safely in the Woodshop and create some outstanding projects this year.
In Mr. Roibal and Mrs. Saturnia’s Art classes, students are creating amazing posters to advertise the Dunellen Harvest Festival and participate in the annual poster contest. Don’t forget the Harvest Festival will be on Sunday, October 13 in Washington Park.
