School News and Updates
We held Freshman Focus Day for all 9th graders as students got an opportunity to listen to several speakers from various career fields. The speakers that talked to the Freshman included: Officers Masterserio and Hyer from the Middlesex County Sheriff’s office, along with their dogs, Valkyrie, Jester, & Xenia, discussing careers in law enforcement; Ms. Phyllis Piano, DHS Choir teacher, but also an instructor for Equine therapy; Caroline Bitzer, an airline pilot; John Osborn, a Forensic document examiner.  Thank you to our school counselor, Ms. Markert and our counseling intern, Ms. Pinkevicz for organizing the day and making it such a success for our students.

Thank you to all that contributed to the Carol Fund collection of food items for those in need for Thanksgiving. They were able to provide a full Thanksgiving meal to numerous local families. Thank you to Laura Murray and Terri Albertson for their efforts with the Carol Fund and the distribution of food. Don’t forget, we will be collecting goods again during December to support and help families during the holiday season.

Tickets are on sale now for the Mistletoe dance on Friday, January 3rd. Interested 11th and 12th grade students should purchase tickets during their Lunch periods.

We were happy to be able to take all of our Club pictures during school so that they will appear in the Exodus Yearbook. It was great to see so many students enthusiastically participating with their clubs and how many students are in multiple club activities. We always encourage students to get involved in the many fun activities they have available to them. Thank you to Mrs. Lubisco, the Yearbook adviser for putting it all together.

Good luck to the students that will be auditioning for the Middlesex County Arts High School on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at Middlesex College. If you registered, be sure to be there at your appointed time. For more information, see their website at Teen Arts HS

Upcoming Events
The Winter concert season is right around the corner! The DHS/LMS Band Concert will be held on Thursday, December 12th, starting at 7:00 pm. Good luck to our conductor, Mr. Sutera and all of our talented musicians. The DHS/LMS Choir Concert will be held on Wednesday, December 18th, at 7:00 pm. Best of luck to Ms. Piano and her amazing singers.

DHS will also be hosting the Faber music concert on Tuesday, December 10th. We are excited to give our younger Destroyer musicians an opportunity to perform in the new DHS Auditorium. We look forward to a lot of great music, led by the incomparable, Mrs. Anastasi and Mr. Geiger.

The Winter sports season starts with scrimmages next week as the Girls Basketball team takes on Woodbridge Magnet on Tuesday at home, while the Boys Basketball team travels to Carteret on Wednesday. Good luck to both squads.

Important Reminders
The DHS Homework Help Center runs from 2:45 - 3:45 pm every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in the DHS Tech Center. Students can come to get extra help from teachers with their school work or just sit and have a quiet place to get things done. We encourage students to attend so that they have fewer or no assignments to do when they get home.

The 2025 Exodus Yearbook is on sale. To purchase a yearbook, use the following link: https://www.jostens.com/apps/store/customer/1057616/Dunellen-High-School/

Academic Corner
In Mrs. Lubisco’s AP Language and Composition classes, the students finished reading the book, Educated, by Tara Westover. As a culminating activity, the students participated in another Socratic Seminar, discussing issues in the book and questioning each other about their perspectives on issues raised. In Mr. Arango’s 9th grade Health class, the students created and then presented to their peers a collage of pictures that represented them and their interests, things they see as valuable to their lives.
