School News and Updates

Congratulations to the DHS Students of the Month for April:
Grade 12 - Adrian Saldana
Grade 11 - Madesyn Quinones
Grade 10 - Kaitylee Garcia
Grade 9 - Sadik Hanif

Thank you to all of the organizations and student groups that helped out with this year's Health and Wellness Fair. It gave students an opportunity to learn more about leading a healthy lifestyle and being safe at home and in the community.  Thank you especially to the Peer Leaders, Safety Ambassadors, and SUDS group for all of their work and Mrs. Albertson for helping put it all together.

A group of DHS students attended the Women’s Empowerment Conference, designed to foster confidence-building, goal setting and building healthy relationships. It focused on empowering girls to have a positive influence on their peers and positive impact on their communities. The following students attended: Caitlin Wallace, Kyla Fucito, Savana McCann, Lila Prokesch, Sophie Carranza, Gaelle Valez, Kyleigh Tigue, Valeria Lopez, Alyssa Segura, and Rose Ciccolella. Thank you to Ms. DelRosario and Mrs. Albertson for accompanying the trip.

DHS will hold its Spring Spirit Week in recognition of the spring sports teams: Baseball, Softball, Track and Field, and Boys Tennis. We will also be holding a Pep Rally on Friday to celebrate all of our teams and the players.

Wednesday was Paraprofessional Appreciation Day. We would like to thank the paraprofessionals that do so much to support the students and teachers at DHS throughout the school year: Ms. Blakely, Mrs. Gavillanes, Mr. Luque, and Ms. Thompson.

Get the 2025 Exodus Yearbook before they sell out. Supply is limited.

Upcoming Events

DHS will be holding a Voter Registration Drive on Wednesday, April 9th, looking to register all 11th and 12th graders that are eligible to vote so that they can participate in the upcoming primary election in June and general election in November.

A group of DHS students will be taking a tour of Rider University next week, getting an opportunity to explore a college campus and find out more about what they have to offer.

Class of 2026 and 2028: NJSLA testing will be April 29 and 30 for all students in Grades 11 and 9. 11th graders will be taking the Science exam, while all 9th graders will be taking the ELA exam.

Important Reminders

Class of 2026, 2027, & 2028: Students in Grades 11, 10, and 9 have started to meet with their Counselors to select courses for the 2025-26 school year. Discussions should be had to determine what classes students would like to take next year, making sure they have the required courses needed to graduate.

All students: A reminder about our ongoing Breakfast program available in the DHS Cafeteria each morning. The breakfast program is a great way to ensure students start the day with a nutritious meal. Students enrolled in the 2024-2025 free/reduced lunch program continue to receive breakfast at no cost.

Class of 2025: DHS has a Senior Practicum program, open to 12th grade students for the last 4 weeks of the school year, where they have a chance to do an internship at a local business or organization that may help them learn more about a potential career. Instead of attending school each day, the students work under the supervision of the adults at their site for 5 hours per day. Any interested 12th grader should speak to Ms. Piano for more information.

For the Class of 2025: The College Acceptances bulletin board is up at DHS. We will display the names of students and the colleges that they have been accepted to. As the college acceptances start to roll in, please be sure to contact Ms. Markert and the Counseling Office so that they are aware and can add the names and schools for display.

REMINDER: The DHS Homework Help Center runs from 2:45 - 3:45 pm every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in the DHS Tech Center. Students can come to get extra help from teachers with their school work or just sit and have a quiet place to get things done. We encourage students to attend so that they have fewer or no assignments to do when they get home.

Academic Corner

Congratulations to Understanding Wring teacher Mr. Lowenberg for being named a “Teacher Who Makes Magic” by radio station Magic 98.3. Mr. Lowenberg has been at DHS for over a decade and continues to challenge students in the classroom with their writing and reading skills, as well as preparing them for life after high school.
