School News and Updates

Announcing the DHS Valedictorian and Salutatorian for the Class of 2025. Congratulations to Gwen Dubrow, Valedictorian and Isabel Tavares, Salutatorian who have done such an amazing job in their four years at DHS and will be giving speeches at the Graduation ceremony on June 17th.

Congratulations to DHS Seniors Ella Walker and Danny Watts, who were the DHS recipients of the Sportsmanship Award by the Greater Middlesex Conference. Thank you to Mr. DeNapoli for nominating them and accompanying them to the event.

This week we held a Spirit Week in celebration of the Spring Sports. Thank you to everyone that participated and dressed up for each day's themes.
Unfortunately, because of the weather, we were not able to hold our Pep Rally at Columbia Park. Fortunately, we are looking to reschedule the event in May so that we can help support our teams and give the student body an opportunity to come together as one.

Thank you to Dr. Best and Ms. Markert for accompanying a group of 11th grade students to tour Rider University. It gave the students to see a college campus, see what they have to offer, and get a feel for college life.

We held our Voter Registration Drive and were able to register 15 future Dunellen voters. Thank you to the NHS members that helped with the drive: Gwen Dubrow, Jackson Portik, Devyn DaSilva, & Kyle Denges, as well as the League of Women Voters organization for the supplies and forms.
Get the 2025 Exodus Yearbook before they sell out. Supply is limited.

Upcoming Events

DHS will be hosting the NJ Sharing Network on Friday, April 25th. The organization works to save and enhance lives through organ and tissue donation and provide support to the families of those who gave the Gift of Life. They will be speaking to the 11th and 12th graders about this critical issue.

Class of 2026 and 2028: NJSLA testing will be April 29 and 30 for all students in Grades 11 and 9. 11th graders will be taking the Science exam, while all 9th graders will be taking the ELA exam.

Important Reminders

All students: A reminder about our ongoing Breakfast program available in the DHS Cafeteria each morning. The breakfast program is a great way to ensure students start the day with a nutritious meal. Students enrolled in the 2024-2025 free/reduced lunch program continue to receive breakfast at no cost.

Class of 2025: DHS has a Senior Practicum program, open to 12th grade students for the last 4 weeks of the school year, where they have a chance to do an internship at a local business or organization that may help them learn more about a potential career. Instead of attending school each day, the students work under the supervision of the adults at their site for 5 hours per day. Any interested 12th grader should speak to Ms. Piano for more information.

For the Class of 2025: The College Acceptances bulletin board is up at DHS. We will display the names of students and the colleges that they have been accepted to. As the college acceptances start to roll in, please be sure to contact Ms. Markert and the Counseling Office so that they are aware and can add the names and schools for display.

REMINDER: The DHS Homework Help Center runs from 2:45 - 3:45 pm every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in the DHS Tech Center. Students can come to get extra help from teachers with their school work or just sit and have a quiet place to get things done. We encourage students to attend so that they have fewer or no assignments to do when they get home.

Learning together!

Academic Corner

This week at the DHS Faculty meeting, the tables were turned and the teachers had an opportunity to be the students as they participated in an activity using the vertical whiteboards that are used in many classrooms. This allowed teachers to further explore their uses and the benefits to having students get up out of their seats to learn. Thank you to Mr. Tobin for his “lesson” and designing the activity, another example of the professional learning happening.
