School News and Updates

For the last 2 weeks, DHS students have been participating in Advanced Placement exams in Biology, English Language and Composition, English Literature and Composition, United States History, Calculus AB, Computer Science A, Computer Science Principles, Spanish Language and Culture, and Music Theory. Congratulations to all of the students that worked so hard this year in the college-level courses. We look forward to receiving the scores in July.

This was a big week for DHS student field trips. Despite some rainy conditions, the students and staff still had a great time and had opportunities to bond with their classmates. Trips included: Ellis Island & the Statue of Liberty, Somerset Patriots baseball game, a performance of Romeo and Juliet, and the Senior Class trip to Pocono Valley Resort.

Thank you to the Dunellen Education Association, the Class of 2025, and Project Graduation for providing a Senior Breakfast to all of the students in the Class of 2025. It was the one of the final times the class will be together before they graduate on June 17th.

DHS students hosted a Club Fair for all of the LMS 8th graders to learn more about extracurricular activities available to them next year, including clubs and sports teams.

Get the 2025 Exodus Yearbook before they sell out. Supply is limited.

Upcoming Events

DHS will be administering NJSLA Math to 9th graders and 10th graders next week, Tuesday, May 21st and Wednesday, May 22nd, during the regular school day, from 7:40 am - 10:00 am. Students need to be to school on time with their fully-charged Chromebook.
Students in Grades 11 and 12 have a Late Arrival both days and can arrive to school by 9:45 am. Students will continue the regular day with Periods 4 - 9 after testing.

DHS Class of 2025 will be hosting its annual Prom on Thursday, May 22nd at the Imperia in Somerset. We anticipate a huge turnout, over 180 participants, ready for a night of fun and dancing. Thank you to the Class officers for the Class of 2025 and their advisers, Mrs. Buchholz and Mrs. MacManus.

The DHS Madrigals have been invited to sing before the New Jersey Conference of Mayors by Dunellen Mayor Jason Cilento in Atlantic City. It is an amazing opportunity for our most talented singers and Ms. Piano, their director.

Important Reminders

DHS will be hosting Awards Night on Thursday, May 29th. Be sure to come out and celebrate our students' successes.  We will award scholarships to the Class of 2025 and award our students academic achievements.

Class of 2026: Senior Class Portraits: Normandy Studio will be at Dunellen High School in Room 212 (Tech Center) the week of June 2nd during the school day to photograph the Class of 2026 for the yearbook. There will be no retakes during the time we're there, as everyone needs a chance to be photographed once. Please be aware there will be a $25 retake fee if you would like to be photographed again for any reason.
If you have any issues finding the location, please email at hello@normandystudio.com.

Please use the link below to book your appointment to be photographed for the yearbook
OR go to our website > PORTRAIT APPOINTMENTS > Dunellen High School Class of 2026.
Please be sure to arrive 5 minutes before your appointment.

REMINDER: The DHS Homework Help Center runs from 2:45 - 3:45 pm every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in the DHS Tech Center. Students can come to get extra help from teachers with their school work or just sit and have a quiet place to get things done. We encourage students to attend so that they have fewer or no assignments to do when they get home.

All students: A reminder about our ongoing Breakfast program available in the DHS Cafeteria each morning. The breakfast program is a great way to ensure students start the day with a nutritious meal. Students enrolled in the 2024-2025 free/reduced lunch program continue to receive breakfast at no cost.

For the Class of 2025: The College Acceptances bulletin board is up at DHS. We will display the names of students and the colleges that they have been accepted to. As the college acceptances start to roll in, please be sure to contact Ms. Markert and the Counseling Office so that they are aware and can add the names and schools for display.

At the Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, May 20th, DHS will be honoring retiring teacher, Mr. Dan Hummel, DHS Class of 1988. Mr. Hummel has served as a PE/Drivers Education teacher at DHS/LMS, as well as a basketball, cross country and track & field coach. He has been a life-long Dunellen resident, teaching in the same classrooms at DHS that he once studied in as a student. Mr. Hummel is amazingly organized and a steady, professional hand that has given his all to educate the students of DHS. In his retirement, we know he is looking forward to being able to continue to spend time with his family, jog around town, workout, and play even more games of pickleball. We wish Mr. Hummel much health and happiness as he enters this new stage in life!
