School News and Updates

DHS students concluded state assessments this week with the NJSLA Math. All 9th and 10th graders participated in the testing on Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II. After 9th months of study in those classes, hopefully all of the hard work paid off and the students demonstrated their mathematical skills and proficiency.

The DHS Madrigals had the opportunity to perform in Atlantic City before the NJ Conference of Mayors, thanks to the invitation from Dunellen Mayor Jason Cilento. The students performed beautifully and it was a real honor to perform in front of such a group. Thank you also to Ms. Piano for all of her hard work to help get the students prepared.

DHS will be holding its annual Prom at the Imperia in Somerset. The event will be attended by about 180 students, the largest prom held by DHS in a very long time. This year's theme, “A Night in New York City.” Thank you to Mrs. Buchholz and Mrs. MacManus for all of their work as the class advisers to help organize the event.

Upcoming Events

The field trip season continues next week as DHS students continue to take advantage of some wonderful learning opportunities. There will be a trip to Broadway in NYC as students take in a performance of the show, “The Great Gatsby” organized by Ms. Kamienski. It is great chance for the students to watch the show after recently completing the novel. A group of boys will also be attending the annual Young Men's Conference. Dr. Best will be bringing the select group to Middlesex College for a day of brotherhood and bonding, and learning about being a responsible young man in today's age.

DHS will host its annual Awards Night on Thursday, May 29, starting at 6:30 apm. The event will be emceed by our valedictorian and salutatorian, Gwen Dubrow and Isabel Tavares. Awards will be given in all academic areas and scholarships will be awarded to members of the Class of 2025.

Important Reminders

Class of 2026: Senior Class Portraits: Normandy Studio will be at Dunellen High School in Room 212 (Tech Center) the week of June 2nd during the school day to photograph the Class of 2026 for the yearbook. There will be no retakes during the time we're there, as everyone needs a chance to be photographed once. Please be aware there will be a $25 retake fee if you would like to be photographed again for any reason.
If you have any issues finding the location, please email at hello@normandystudio.com.

Please use the link below to book your appointment to be photographed for the yearbook
OR go to our website > PORTRAIT APPOINTMENTS > Dunellen High School Class of 2026.
Please be sure to arrive 5 minutes before your appointment.

REMINDER: The DHS Homework Help Center runs from 2:45 - 3:45 pm every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in the DHS Tech Center. Students can come to get extra help from teachers with their school work or just sit and have a quiet place to get things done. We encourage students to attend so that they have fewer or no assignments to do when they get home.

All students: A reminder about our ongoing Breakfast program available in the DHS Cafeteria each morning. The breakfast program is a great way to ensure students start the day with a nutritious meal. Students enrolled in the 2024-2025 free/reduced lunch program continue to receive breakfast at no cost.

For the Class of 2025: The College Acceptances bulletin board is up at DHS. We will display the names of students and the colleges that they have been accepted to. As the college acceptances start to roll in, please be sure to contact Ms. Markert and the Counseling Office so that they are aware and can add the names and schools for display.

Academic Corner

As we approach the final 3 weeks of school, teachers are starting to finish up with the new learning in their classes and starting to review for the Final Exams. Teachers will be informing students of what they need to study for the exams so that hopefully they will do their best in preparing and be confident with the material. A reminder that exams are worth 10% of a students final grade so that along with the 4th quarter grade, 30% of a students grade is still to be determined. There is still time for students to bring up their grades and demonstrate success in their classes.
