School News

Thank you to all that participated in the Homecoming festivities last week. Congratulations to the Queen and King of Homecoming, Gabriela Rosas Gonzalez and Pablo Paredes Paredes.

Thank you to all of the parents and students that came out for College Financial Aid Night this past week. Very important information was given out concerning the opportunities to help pay for college. If you were unable to attend, you can have your child go on the DHS Counseling Google Classroom or click on the link: DHS Counseling Page and go to the Financial Aid Presentation.

DHS students in Grade 10 participated in a presentation from the Nikhil Badlini Foundation focused on promoting Safe Driving. Nikhil was an 11 year old boy that was killed by a driver when they ran through a Stop sign in 2011. The group will be working with our 10th grade students throughout the school year to raise awareness of safety as these new drivers get their driving permits and start to get out on the road.

A representative from the Middlesex County Teen Arts High School visited DHS to share information about this opportunity.  If students are interested, they should be sure to visit their website at: Arts High School for more information.

We are always celebrating minds of all kinds and October is ADHD and Dyslexia Awareness Month! We are asking students and staff to wear orange or red this Tuesday, October 28th in support of either cause!

Less than 1 Month to Opening Night: The DHS Drama Club presents Shakespeare’s Hamlet, on the DHS stage, November 14th and 15th
Thank you to all that came out and supported the DHS Drama Club’s biannual Scoop Dinner. There was an amazing amount of food to choose from and everyone left feeling a little fuller - and happy not to have cooked for a night.

The end of the 1st quarter is Wednesday, November 5th.

Class of 2025 & 2026: Please check your Genesis account for a document concerning the requirement of schools to provide certain student information to military recruiters, institutions of higher learning, and/or prospective employers, unless otherwise notified. There is a form to fill out if you do not consent to the disclosure of this information to these groups.

The 2025-2026 Exodus Yearbook is officially on sale.

ParentSquare app: Dunellen Public Schools is using ParentSquare for all district and school communications and these messages work better on the app!

Please download the app (Apple, Android) to your phone or tablet to get the best experience with the information that is sent out. The app will allow you to view attachments, send messages, and get updates all in a feed format that resembles a social media platform!!

Attention Winter Athletes: Any student looking to play basketball or wrestle this winter, be sure to complete the necessary forms in order to be eligible. For more information, please visit the DHS Athletics website: DHS Athletics

The DHS Homework Help Center will run from 2:45 - 3:45 pm, and every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in the DHS Tech Center. Students can come to get extra help from teachers with their school work or just sit and have a quiet place to get things done. We encourage students to attend so that they have fewer or no assignments to do when they get home.

All students: A reminder about our ongoing Breakfast program available in the DHS Cafeteria each morning. The breakfast program is a great way to ensure students start the day with a nutritious meal. Students enrolled in the 2025-2026 free/reduced lunch program continue to receive breakfast at no cost.

Algebra I: Vertical Learning in Action
Mrs. Zandomenego’s Algebra I students used a vertical learning approach to practice identifying functions and distinguishing between continuous and discrete graphs. Working at whiteboards around the room, students collaborated to solve problems, explain their reasoning, and compare strategies. The activity encouraged movement, discussion, and stronger understanding of key concepts in functions and graphing.

English I - Honors: Exploring The Alchemist
In Ms. Fragale’s Honors English I class, students are continuing their journey through The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. As they read independently, students are completing double-entry journals with meaningful quotes and reflections, connecting the novel’s themes to personal insights and broader ideas. Through careful note-taking and analysis, students are deepening their understanding of Santiago’s journey and the novel’s timeless messages about dreams, destiny, and self-discovery.
