School News and Updates

We held Freshman Focus Day for all 9th graders as students got an opportunity to listen to seven speakers from various career fields, more than we have ever had.
The speakers that talked to the Freshman included:
- Officers from the Middlesex County Sheriff’s office, along with K-9 officers
- John Osborn, a Forensic document examiner
- Carly MacManus (daughter of DHS Nurse, Mrs. MacManus), a journalist
- Daniel Wright, a carpenter
- Hugh Lawrence, Jr., a physicians assistant
- Rebecca Stark-Gendrano, a real estate agent
- Johan Powell, a lawyer
Thank you to our school counselor, Ms. Markert and Mrs. Switzer for organizing all of our presenters and making it such a success for our students.

The National Art Honor Society held their induction ceremony, welcoming in their newest members. Congratulations to this year's inductees: Amina Black, Bandon Condit, Destinee Vasconez, Diana Vidal, Ellie Uhler, Juan Salazar, Kyle Denges, Lisa-Marie Nieves, Miguel Navarro Valero, Sophia Portalatin, and Valeria Lopez.

Congratulations to the students in Mr. Zukowski’s Creative Writing class that participated in the ‘Stranger Things’ TV show writing contest. 4 DHS students were recognized for their skills: Bryan Villacres, Naomi Soto, Sara Gonzalez, and Nicholas Bradshaw.

A big THANK YOU to all of those that contributed to the Carol Fund collection of food items for those in need for Thanksgiving. They were able to provide a full Thanksgiving meal to NINE local families. Laura Murray and Terri Albertson lead the way and do so much for the community of Dunellen.
Don’t forget, we are now collecting goods again during December to support and help families during the holiday season.

Tickets are on sale now for the Mistletoe dance on Friday, December 19th. Interested 11th and 12th grade students should purchase tickets during their Lunch periods.

Thank you to Mrs. Lubisco and Normandy Studios for taking all of the Club and Activity pictures for the Exodus Yearbook. It was great to see so many students enthusiastically participating with their clubs and how many students are in multiple club activities. We always encourage students to get involved in the many fun activities they have available to them.

Good luck to the students that will be auditioning for the Middlesex County Arts High School on Sunday, December 7 at Middlesex College. If you registered, be sure to be there at your appointed time. For more information, see their website at Teen Arts HS

Important Reminders

The DHS Homework Help Center will run from 2:45 - 3:45 pm, and every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in the DHS Tech Center. Students can come to get extra help from teachers with their school work or just sit and have a quiet place to get things done. We encourage students to attend so that they have fewer or no assignments to do when they get home.

The 2025-2026 Exodus Yearbook is officially on sale.
Destroyer Dollars!  Did you know our students can earn Destroyer Dollars for demonstrating excellence both in and out of the classroom? Whether it’s showing academic growth, lending a helping hand, or being caught doing something truly amazing, these positive behaviors are recognized and rewarded!
When students receive Destroyer Dollars, they can enter our monthly raffle for prizes, enjoy a snack, or even earn a positive call home to celebrate their success. It’s our way of reinforcing the great choices our students make every day and building a school culture that values respect, effort, and pride. Keep up the great work, Destroyers!

Academic Corner: From the busy desk of Ms. Powell

Ms. Piano’s Choir classes are gearing up for their concert on December 11th! Today they were running through their show, and I had the pleasure of joining them for their vocal warm-ups. Such a fun and joyful way to end the week!

Mr. Zukowski’s Economics classes are diving into real-world skills! Students are working on a project where they complete federal and state W-2 forms using sample information from class. Working in groups, they filled out the returns by hand—a hands-on, practical experience that’s truly awesome!

Mrs. Lancelot and Mr. Quinn’s Modern World History classes took part in an engaging gallery walk centered on Martin Luther’s 95 Theses. Students examined selected excerpts, pulled out key information, and discussed why Luther’s movement was so influential in its time. A great blend of critical thinking and historical inquiry!
