DHS Weekly Update

2/6/2026

Main Entrance

Hello Destroyers

We have dealt with a long stretch of COLD weather lately! Looking to the week ahead, it looks like we could have some days above the freezing point. Who would think that that would be cause for celebration and actually feel ‘warm.’ Even though the Groundhog said there would be six more weeks of winter, we can keep our fingers crossed and hope for some more pleasant temperatures!

It’s a big weekend in sports! The Opening Ceremonies for the Winter Olympics is today, while the Super Bowl kicks off on Sunday. For all sports fans, it’s an exciting weekend!!

Important Reminders

The DHS Homework Help Center runs from 2:45 - 3:45 pm every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in the DHS Tech Center. Students can come to get extra help from teachers with their school work or just sit and have a quiet place to get things done. We encourage students to attend so that they have fewer or no assignments to do when they get home.

For the Class of 2026: As college acceptances start to roll in, please be sure to contact Ms. Markert and the counseling office so that they are aware and help to make sure everything is taken care of with your college of choice.

The 2025 Exodus Yearbook is on sale. To purchase a yearbook, use the following link: https://www.jostens.com/apps/store/customer/1057616/Dunellen-High-School/

Academic Corner: From the studious desk of Ms. Powell

Students in Mrs. Clemens’ Drama class took to the runway for a creative fashion show! Working in groups, students designed and created original costumes for characters from plays they’ve read. They then presented their designs, explaining how each costume symbolically represented the character’s traits, motivations, and role in the play. The project blended creativity, collaboration, and close reading—bringing literature to life in a fun and engaging way.

Ms. Bodak’s Biology classes engaged in some “sweet” science during a hands-on lab using candy to model DNA replication. Students used different candies to represent nucleotides and base pairs, building and “unzipping” DNA strands to visualize how replication occurs. This interactive activity helped reinforce complex molecular biology concepts in a fun, memorable way!
