Students Recognized by DAICC for Black History Month!

The Dunellen Arts, Inclusion, and Culture Commission (DAICC) provided two student arts contest opportunities in honor of Black History Month. Winning students were recognized at Tuesday's Borough Council meeting by DAICC Vice-Chair Shronda Schimpf and Dunellen Mayor Jason Cilento!

First, the Black History Month Visual Art Contest yielded an amazing assortment of artwork and three DHS students were recognized!

  • 1st place: Josh Osborne - Harriet Tubman leading her people / Moses metaphor
  • 2nd place: Amina Black - Portrait of Lauryn Hill
  • 3rd place: Chloe Downing - Black woman seeing her younger self in the mirror
Second, the MLK, Jr. Essay Contest had an astonishing 362 student entries and winners were selected from each school! 
  • Faber:
    • 1st Place: Jianna Hughes; 2nd Place: Paulo Tran 
  • LMS:
    • 1st Place: Sophia Maldonado Sanchez; 2nd Place: Giana Apice
  • DHS:
    • 1st Place: Semarah Mangaroo; 2nd Place: Lisbeth Serrano
