DHS Weekly Update

2/27/2026

Main Entrance

Hello Destroyers

Well some students must have been wishing REAL hard for some more snow because we sure got hit hard on Sunday/Monday and having to take 2 snow days. Here’s to hoping that is the end to the wintery white stuff!! It looks like warmer temperatures are on their way.
Because of the snow days, April 29th will now be a regular school day for students.

One month until Spring Break, March 28 - April 5. That means Spring time is right around the corner!

Please read the attached, Wellness Waves, from our DHS Wellness Specialist, Dr. de Oliveira.

Good luck TONIGHT as the Boys and Girls Basketball team compete in the first round of the NJSIAA State Basketball Tournament. The games got pushed back a few days due to the weather. Class of 2026: The College Acceptances bulletin board is now ongoing at DHS. We are displaying the names of students and the colleges that they have been accepted to. As the college acceptances start to roll in, please be sure to contact Dr. Best and the Counseling Office so that they are aware and can add the names and schools for display.

Final Call to Order the Yearbook: The deadline to order the Exodus Yearbook is today, February 27th.  Our school will be placing its final order with our yearbook publisher, Jostens, this week.
There is still an opportunity to guarantee a copy of the yearbook by placing your order TODAY.  While there may be some extra copies, they will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis, so there is a real possibility that none will be available for purchase during distribution this spring.  Unfortunately, it is not possible to order additional copies once the yearbooks have been delivered.

You can purchase here using this link:

Class of 2027: Students in Grade 11 will be taking the New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessment (NJGPA) in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics, March 16 - 20. This is the Graduation test students need to pass in order to be in a position to graduate in 2027. Students need to be sure to charge their Chromebooks, try to get a good night's sleep, and be on time to school!

The Dunellen PTO Tricky Tray is scheduled for Saturday, May 2, 2026.  The Tricky Tray Committee is currently looking for donations to help make our Tricky Tray a successful event.  The more donations received, the more prizes we can have at our Tricky Tray, the more money the PTO can raise.  And all money raised goes back to our students, our teachers, and our schools.  Attached is a flyer with more information regarding donations.  Any help our families can offer is greatly appreciated and helps us do as much as we can for our kids.  Thank you!
Registration is also open for our Tricky Tray.  It will take place in the John P. Faber Elementary School Gymnasium.  Registration closes on Saturday, April 25, 2026 @ 5pm (or when we have reached capacity).
Here is the link to register and purchase tickets and ticket packages:
Please read the Google Form carefully as there is a lot of information about our Tricky Tray on the main page of the form.
We can't wait to see you on May 2nd for our Tricky Tray!

Important Reminders

All students: A reminder about our ongoing Breakfast program available in the DHS Cafeteria each morning. The breakfast program is a great way to ensure students start the day with a nutritious meal. Students enrolled in the 2025-2026 free/reduced lunch program continue to receive breakfast at no cost.

The Spring Sport season is fast approaching. Any student interested in participating in baseball, softball, boys tennis, or track & field should make sure they have submitted their paperwork so that they can join a team. If interested, please be sure to see Mr. DeNapoli or Mrs. Buchholz in Room 202 for more information.

The DHS Homework Help Center runs from 2:45 - 3:45 pm every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in the DHS Tech Center. Students can come to get extra help from teachers with their school work or just sit and have a quiet place to get things done. We encourage students to attend so that they have fewer or no assignments to do when they get home.

Class of 2026 - FAFSA reminder
The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is now OPEN. Please use the link for more information on completing the FAFSA.  It is now a Graduation requirement for all NJ high school students to complete the FAFSA during their 12th grade year.

Academic Corner: From the pedagocally-sound desk of Ms. Powell

Students in Ms. Piano’s Choir classes are preparing a classic favorite from Disney’s The Lion King, “Can You Feel the Love Tonight.” A song we all know and love, this timeless piece will be showcased very soon. We can’t wait for you to hear them shine!

In Physical Education classes, our students are putting their skills and teamwork to the test! Through volleyball and basketball, they are building strength, endurance, and sportsmanship while challenging themselves to improve each day. Their energy, determination, and school spirit are on full display as they push themselves to new limits.
