School News and Updates

Congratulations to Marissa DeLaCruz and Devyn DaSilva for receiving the GMC Sportsmanship Award this year.

A group of DHS students attended a field trip to UTI (Universal Technical Institute) this week, to learn more about what trade schools have to offer and the programs available. Thank you to Ms. Markert and Dr. Best for giving the students this opportunity.

Congratulations to the DHS Spring sports teams as their seasons have gotten off to a strong start.
The softball team has a record of 8-2 and are averaging over 20 runs per game.
The baseball team got off to a slow start but has now won 5 games in a row.
The tennis team remains undefeated with a record of 2-0-1.
The track & field team has seen strong individual performances from many athletes and are hoping to build on their recent success.
Good luck to all of the teams as the season continues.

Thank you to the Safety Ambassadors as they continue their program with the students at Faber Elementary School. The students have worked hard to design lessons that engage the younger children and get them to appreciate being safe around school, town, and in their homes.

For over 50 years, April has been designated as World Autism Month to promote acceptance of the tens of thousands of individuals with autism each year. World Autism Month is recognized both here in the United States and around the globe. DHS held a spirit week for students and staff to help bring awareness and understanding of autism.

Class of 2026: DHS has a Senior Practicum program, open to 12th grade students for the last 4 weeks of the school year, where they have a chance to do an internship at a local business or organization that may help them learn more about a potential career. Instead of attending school each day, the students work under the supervision of the adults at their site for 5 hours per day. Any interested 12th grader should speak to Ms. Piano for more information.

Class of 2026: FAFSA reminder
The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) must be completed by all Seniors. Please use the link for more information on completing the FAFSA.  It is now a Graduation requirement for all NJ high school students to complete the FAFSA during their 12th grade year.

Upcoming Events

DHS will host its quarterly Honor Roll Assembly on Tuesday, April 21st for all students that earned Honor Roll for the 3rd quarter.

The DHS Art Club is looking forward to their upcoming field trip to the newly renovated Princeton University Art Museum. It’s an opportunity for students to get to see world class art up close and personal.

The national date for the "Take Your Child to Work Day" is Thursday, April 23rd. If your child will be going to work with you on April 23rd, please inform the school to let us know they will be absent.

Class of 2027 and 2029: NJSLA testing will be April 28 and 29 for all students in Grades 11 and 9. 11th graders will be taking the Science exam, while all 9th graders will be taking the ELA exam.

The Dunellen PTO Tricky Tray is scheduled for Saturday, May 2, 2026. The Tricky Tray Committee is currently looking for donations to help make our Tricky Tray a successful event. The more donations received, the more prizes we can have at our Tricky Tray, the more money the PTO can raise. And all money raised goes back to our students, our teachers, and our schools. Attached is a flyer with more information regarding donations. Any help our families can offer is greatly appreciated and helps us do as much as we can for our kids. Thank you!
Registration is also open for our Tricky Tray. It will take place in the John P. Faber Elementary School Gymnasium. Registration closes on Saturday, April 25, 2026 @ 5pm (or when we have reached capacity).
Here is the link to register and purchase tickets and ticket packages:
Please read the Google Form carefully as there is a lot of information about our Tricky Tray on the main page of the form.
We can't wait to see you on May 2nd for our Tricky Tray!

Important Reminders

For the Class of 2026: The College Acceptances bulletin board is up at DHS. We are displaying the names of students and the colleges that they have been accepted to. As the college acceptances roll in, please be sure to contact Dr. Best and the Counseling Office so that they are aware and can add the names and schools for display.

REMINDER: The DHS Homework Help Center runs from 2:45 - 3:45 pm every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in the DHS Tech Center. Students can come to get extra help from teachers with their school work or just sit and have a quiet place to get things done. We encourage students to attend so that they have fewer or no assignments to do when they get home.

Academic Corner: From the wise desk of Ms. Powell

Mr. Shimko’s Industrial Arts students are producing impressive projects, including stools, short tables, and benches. Their craftsmanship, attention to detail, and dedication to quality are truly evident—each piece showcasing the skill and pride students take in their work. Be sure to come out to the DHS Fine Arts Show on June 4 at 6:30 PM to see their incredible work on display!

Mr. Kolb’s Physics classes are exploring the concept of momentum, examining how mass and velocity impact motion. Through problem-solving and real-world applications, students are gaining a stronger understanding of how momentum plays a role in everyday life and scientific phenomena.
