School News and Updates

Congratulations to all of the students that received awards and scholarships at the annual DHS Awards Night! It was a great evening where we once again got to acknowledge our students' academic success and the hard work they have demonstrated throughout the year. Thank you to all of the local organizations who gave out tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships to well-deserving members of the Class of 2026. Their continued support is always appreciated!
Our emcees for the evening, Joshua Osborne and Megan North did an amazing job hosting the event, getting themselves ready for their speeches at Graduation.

The Class of 2026 hosted its annual Prom last week at Galloping Hills Country Club in Kenilworth. It was an outstanding evening, with beautiful weather, great food, and students getting a chance to socialize with their friends and dance the night away. Thank you to the Class of 2026 for putting on such a fun event, the class advisers and officers for their organization, and the chaperones for giving of their time, making it such a special night.

DHS ran its annual field trip to the Construction Industry Career Day. Students had an opportunity to meet with professionals in various fields and try out the skills they would need to perform. Thank you to Mr. Shimko and Ms. Herrera for taking the students on the trip.

The Little Destroyers preschool program held their annual ‘Graduation’ ceremony. Despite some nervousness and a few tears (from the preschoolers, not the high school students) it was a great ceremony for the kids as they had their first experience of what it’s like to be in school. Thank you to Ms. DelRosario and the students in the Parenting class that have done such a great job all school year long.

This week ended the Spring Sport season and we have much to be proud of from our athletes.
Softball ended the season with a fantastic record of 17-10, with 3 players getting to the 100 milestone: Alexa DeVesa, Rose Ciccolella, and Savanna McCann.
Baseball ended the season with a strong record of 18-8. The season was highlighted by the team getting all the way to the Championship game of the GMC Invitational tournament.
The Boys Tennis team had a bounce back year, with a record of 12-6-1. Great seasons by Seniors, 1st Singles player Kyle Denges and 2nd Singles player Johnny Espinoza Sanchez.
The Boys and Girls Track & Field team took strides in working to bring the program back to its past glory. Many athletes achieved personal records and made great showings in the various competitions.

Important Reminders

For the Class of 2026: The College Acceptances bulletin board is up at DHS. We are displaying the names of students and the colleges that they have been accepted to. As the college acceptances roll in, please be sure to contact Dr. Best and the Counseling Office so that they are aware and can add the names and schools for display.

REMINDER: The DHS Homework Help Center runs from 2:45 - 3:45 pm every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in the DHS Tech Center. Students can come to get extra help from teachers with their school work or just sit and have a quiet place to get things done. We encourage students to attend so that they have fewer or no assignments to do when they get home.

Academic Corner: From the exuberant desk of Ms. Powell

Ms. Kamienski’s English II students recently completed their end-of-the-year American Literature Portfolios, showcasing their growth, creativity, and understanding of the themes explored throughout the course. The portfolios included a reflective essay, literary analysis, soundtrack project, acrostic poem, and other personalized pieces that allowed students to connect literature to their own experiences and perspectives. Through this culminating project, students demonstrated thoughtful analysis, creativity, and a deeper appreciation for American literature.

Mr. Tseng’s Algebra II and Intermediate Algebra classes are currently exploring probability through engaging, hands-on activities. Students are using spin wheels and dice to practice calculating theoretical and experimental probability, making predictions, and analyzing outcomes. Through collaborative games and real-world problem-solving, students are developing critical thinking skills while deepening their understanding of chance, data, and mathematical reasoning.
