School News and Updates

Congratulations to the seniors honored by the Dunellen/Green Brook Rotary for receiving scholarships to help them pursue college next year. This year’s awardees are: Jayden Caraballo, Alexa DeVesa, Autumn Humbert-Williams, Angie Lockhart, and Joshua Osborne.

Congratulations to the DHS Band and Choir for their participation in a competition at Dorney Park. Both the Band and Choir earned a ranking of Superior from the judges. Excellent job by both groups and their leaders, Mr. Sutera and Ms. Piano.

Well done to Alexa DeVesa and Jackson Portik for being selected as the Dunellen GMC Scholar-Athletes for the Class of 2026. Both excelled as two-sport athletes and outstanding students — a very deserving honor.

Kudos to Mr. Sutera and the DHS Bands for their amazing concert. The two and a half hour program entertained a full house and featured the Jazz Band, Concert Band, Saxophone Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Brass Ensemble, Saxophone Quartet, and a joint performance by the DHS and LMS Bands. They gave everyone a memorable evening of great music.

This week’s Fine Arts Show highlighted the wide range of talent among DHS students in visual art, woodworking, engineering, and computer design. The professional-quality pieces on display reflected the students’ dedication and effort. Thank you to Mr. Shimko, Mr. Roibal, Mr. Howard, Mr. Santiago, and Mr. Lakatos for their work in putting on such an impressive exhibit.

Thank you to Ms. Piano and the DHS Choir and Madrigals for their concert — another beautiful performance presented to a standing-room-only audience. The many hours of rehearsal were evident and produced a truly special evening.

Congratulations to the Executive Student Council officers for 2026–2027:
  • President: Caitlin Wallace
  • Vice President: Kenny Vargas
  • Secretary: Valeria Lopez
  • Treasurer: Kaitylee Garcia

Important Reminders

Final Call for the Class of 2026: The College Acceptances bulletin board is up at DHS. We are displaying the names of students and the colleges that they have been accepted to. As the college acceptances roll in, please be sure to contact Dr. Best and the Counseling Office so that they are aware and can add the names and schools for display.

REMINDER: The DHS Homework Help Center runs from 2:45 - 3:45 pm every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in the DHS Tech Center. Students can come to get extra help from teachers with their school work or just sit and have a quiet place to get things done. We encourage students to attend so that they have fewer or no assignments to do when they get home.

Academic Corner: From the desk of Mr. Lynch

DHS is lucky to have dedicated 9th- and 10th-grade Teams who meet during the school day to review student progress and address challenges. They also hold one-on-one and small-group conferences with students. These meetings help teachers build stronger personal connections with students and support better study habits. Teams provide study guides and plans to help students prepare for midterms and final exams.
The 10th-grade team: Mr. Orsucci, Mr. Miller, Ms. Kamienski, Dr. Best, and Mr. Lynch.
The 9th-grade team: Mr. Lowenberg, Mrs. Lancelot, Ms. McCarthy, Mr. Valenzuela, Ms. Fragale, Ms. Markert, and Ms. Powell.

As the school year draws to a close, classes are in the final stretch. With only three days of instruction remaining, teachers are helping students prepare for Final Exams by distributing review sheets with key terms, handing out practice packets, and using review games to reinforce learned material. Thank you to all teachers and paraprofessionals for their commitment and excellent work throughout the year!
