Hello Destroyers

IT’S HOMECOMING! We had a fantastic Spirit Week and an exciting Pep Rally, all in preparation for tonight's Football game v. rival Middlesex High School. The game will kick off at 7:00 pm at Columbia Park!

The Homecoming parade will start at 6:15 pm at DHS, then proceed down Washington Ave. to Columbia Park. The parade will include the DHS Cheerleaders and this year’s Homecoming Court. During halftime of the football game, we will crown this year's Homecoming Queen and King!

School News and Updates

Thanks to all that participated in today's Pep Rally! Each class was well represented and did a great job cheering for their classmates.

Thank you to the Executive Student Council members, Caitlin Wallace, Kenny Vargas, Valeria Lopez, and Kaitylee Garcia and their adviser, Mrs. Zandomenego for organizing the event. And thank you to our master of ceremonies, Mr. Baach, who brought the energy.

Congratulations to the DHS Student-Athletes of the Week: Tennis player Amina Black and soccer player Brandon Ramirez.

Upcoming Events

A representative from the Middlesex County Teen Arts High School will be visiting DHS on Friday, October 2nd during all Lunches.

Picture Day is coming up for 9th, 10th, and 11th graders on Friday, October 9th. School pictures will be taken during students' PE/Health classes. Picture forms will be handed out during Homeroom.

Come out and support the Dunellen Harvest Festival on Sunday, October 11th from 11 am - 4 pm at Washington Park.

DHS will have all 10th and 11th graders take the PSAT on Wednesday, October 14th during the school day. Students will take this assessment with their homerooms.

DHS will be hosting College Financial Aid Night on Wednesday, October 14th at 6:30 pm in the DHS Tech Center. Come and learn about the changes to the FAFSA and financial aid that is available through state and federal programs. There will be separate presentations delivered in English and Spanish.

The annual Dunellen Haunted Trail is Friday, October 16th and Saturday, October 17th from 7:00 - 10:00 pm at Columbia Park.

The Counseling department is organizing a College Fair for all 11th and 12th graders on October 29th during the students PE classes. There will be about 30 colleges and trade schools represented at the fair.

Important Reminders

Away All Day: We remind parents and students that there is no use of internet-connected devices during the school day. Students are not to use cell phones, headphones, earbuds, smart watches, smart glasses, and tablets. While most students have followed the new rules, some have needed reminders and have received consequences for their actions.

The DHS Homework Help Center is now open and will run after school, from 2:45 - 3:45 pm, and every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in the DHS Tech Center. Students can come to get extra help from teachers with their school work or just sit and have a quiet place to get things done. We encourage students to attend so that they have fewer or no assignments to do when they get home.

All students: A reminder about our ongoing Breakfast program available in the DHS Cafeteria each morning. The breakfast program is a great way to ensure students start the day with a nutritious meal. Students enrolled in the 2026-2027 free/reduced lunch program continue to receive breakfast at no cost. Families must complete the forms every year in order to be eligible.

Academic Corner: From the desk of Ms. Powell

Students in Mr. Roibal’s Art classes are putting their creativity to work by designing posters for the Dunellen HarvestFest on October 11! It is wonderful to see our students showcasing their artistic talents while displaying their Dunellen community pride. We can’t wait to see their artwork helping to promote this special community event!

Seniors in Mr. Kupiec’s and Mr. Zukowski’s English IV classes are diving into the classic Greek tragedy Oedipus Rex. As they read, students are taking a closer look at literary elements such as dramatic irony, foreshadowing, symbolism, fate, and the tragic hero. Through group discussion and analysis, our seniors are strengthening their critical-thinking skills while exploring how themes from this ancient text continue to connect to literature and life today.
