Dunellen Community Comes Together for an Unforgettable Night of Hockey, Cheer, and School Spirit
On Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Dunellen staff, student-athletes, cheerleaders, and community members came together for Dunellen Athletics Night Out at the Prudential Center to watch the New Jersey Devils take on the Colorado Avalanche. The evening was filled with excitement, school spirit, and an unforgettable performance by the Dunellen High School cheerleaders.
For many Dunellen athletes and cheerleaders, the event marked their first time attending a professional hockey game. The energy inside the arena was contagious, and excitement reached new heights as the DHS cheerleaders took the concourse stage during the first intermission. Performing in front of a large professional sports crowd was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many of the students.
Senior Melany Jimenez captured the excitement of the evening, saying, “This is so exciting! This is my first professional hockey game, and I can't believe I'm performing at it!”
The DHS cheerleaders delivered an energetic, 10-minute routine featuring band dances, crowd-leading cheers, and a special “Hello Cheer” designed to rally support for the Devils while playfully warning the Colorado Avalanche of the challenges ahead. Their performance showcased the team's talent, dedication, and growing confidence on a much larger stage. The cheerleaders also brought their Dunellen pride to the jumbo screen, where they were seen cheering for both the Devils and their hometown community.
Coach Sweeney reflected on the significance of the experience, stating, “As a team, the girls have grown so much. Having this opportunity to perform on such a large platform is truly an unforgettable experience for our Dunellen cheerleaders.”
The night ended on a high note as the New Jersey Devils secured the victory. However, the biggest win for Dunellen was the opportunity to celebrate its student-athletes, recognize the hard work of its cheerleaders, and bring the school community together in support of its students.
Dunellen Athletics Night Out was more than just a hockey game, it was a celebration of teamwork, community pride, and school spirit. From the excitement of watching professional hockey to the outstanding performance by the DHS cheerleaders, this special evening created memories that will last a lifetime. Go Devils, and go Destroyers!
